Southern winters never fail to surprise.
Yesterday I drove in a steady rain that washed the landscape in shades of gray, but today the sun is bright and tempting me away from the reservation desk. Before I head out for a walk though I will catch you up on what is happening at the inn and in our town.
Hmmmm…………okay, now that that’s done.
Bridal Fair in Jonesborough
Yep, pretty slow right now, but we are in mad preparation for the annual bridal fair, which will take place on Saturday, February 20th from 11am-4pm. What is unique about Jonesborough’s bridal fair is that it is a town-wide event. We are quite excited about this year’s fair, because a group of us have put together a drawing for a free wedding! So if you know a couple that is planning their nuptials (or what I refer to as the Ball and Chain Re-enactment), send them to www.jonesboroughweddings.com to find out more.

Banana Bread Bonanza
So to help pass away the slow winter days, I’ve been experimenting with banana bread. The inn smells divine when I’m baking. So far the toffee banana bread is the favorite, but I’ll be attempting a Banana Foster’s bread this week. I made my own banana liqueur this summer so I’ve been putting it to work along with the small tonnage of bananas in my freezer. You know what I LOVE about cooking and baking my own food? I know exactly what is on my plate. Even if I make something decadent, it’s still wholesome!
It’s one of my prevailing philosophies for running the Eureka. I like knowing that we choose organic and all natural whenever we can here at the inn whether it’s the cleaners we use or the oatmeal you eat. It makes me feel good when you bite into a piece of homemade, yummy banana bread, not only because it tastes great but because the eggs I used in it came from happy chickens. They didn’t live in cages and eat chemicals. Someone was more than humane to these creatures, and it’s wonderful to put that kind of energy into what we do. Maybe I spend a little more for each egg, but can you put a price on kindness?
So I think it’s time for some fresh air and sunshine. I’ll be updating this page on a weekly basis, AND you can check us out on Facebook now. I’m building photo albums there and working on special events. Lots of good things happening!
Warm and Cozy at the Eureka,
Maria
