Purple, Pains and Poo
There are two great things about Spring. The first is the emergence of nature from her winter slumber and the second is that the winter whining stops. I've been working almost daily in the garden, gearing up for our first garden wedding and trying to put in every plant I can before the real heat and humidity descend. The Eureka's edible garden is coming along nicely as well as our new lavender bed, ten butterfly bushes will bloom this summer, and I plan to start our Monarch Butterfly Waystation in a few weeks. Rain barrels are in the near future, and I'm thinking about becoming a snake enthusiast. Okay, maybe not.
May Madness
Jonesborough is gearing up for summer! May brings lots of good things to town - Storytellers in Residence, the Farmer's Market, Music on the Square, May flowers. Mark your calendar for Memorial Day weekend, because that Saturday is our annual garden gala. Jonesborough's best will be on tour, and you will have an opportunity to meet some of our most talented local artists too as each garden hosts an artist working in a variety of mediums. Pam Etheredge will be our garden. She makes stunning pine needle baskets. The inn has a 2-night minimum that weekend so call for details and reservations! Already have plans for that weekend? Then plan on attending the.........
Love Lavender Festival
The Eureka and Scott County Lavender are hosting our first, and we hope annual, Lavender Festival May 22nd and 23rd in our courtyard along 1st avenue. We have vendors, seminars and food lined up, and I'm working on music. If you know anyone who would like to play the event for free, give me a call. I have a 2-night minimum that weekend also so call for reservations! For more information on the event, please visit www.lovelavenderfestival.com
Crafters in the Courtyard
On Saturday, June 12th the inn will host regional artists from 10am – 6pm. If you are interested in being a vendor, drop me an email or give me a call! There is no booth fee, only an advertising fee.
Theatre Next Door
The Jonesborough Repertory Theater next door is gearing up for their new play, Moonlight and Magnolias. Hey! I just planted a black tulip magnolia in our lovely garden. Gorgeous! As for the play, which I'm sure will be a sell-out, you can call me for dates and times or check out their website www.jonesboroughtheatre.com.
What's Cooking at the Inn?
Well, I've traded in my days of banana bread making to channel my energies to compost. My kitchen compost (loaded with banana peels of course), which I mix with mulched leaves is a rich, black wonder. Very exciting. Last year I gathered truck loads of various items (poop mainly) to make a gourmet compost for my homemade soil - 240 gallons of it. That was fun. This year I thought I would do something easier - perhaps design a 7-acre maze with daffodils and asparagus or weave a tapestry depicting the life cycle of a rain forest.
I'm very excited to note that the inn now uses farm-fresh eggs from local farmer Tanya King. She makes the most amazing soy candles too. If you're in Jonesborough on a Saturday morning you can meet her along with one of her beautiful chickens at the farmer's market.
Well, chores beckon! Don't forget to check us out on Facebook now. I'll be posting new albums soon, including one of the upcoming wedding. The inn's awesome event planner, Brandi Woodall, keeps our Facebook page current, which is great since I seem to be more attached to an iron or shovel than a keyboard! Come stay with us!
Always-doing like the Home Depot,
Maria
